Mars Area junior Jacob Smith was selected by solo audition to perform in the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA) District Jazz Festival, to be held Feb. 2-3 at Slippery Rock University (Slippery Rock, Pa.). 

Smith plays trombone with the Mars Area High School Band. Michael Davis, trombonist and former member of The Rolling Stones; Shawn Pityk, Kiski Area High School band director; and Joe Scheller, saxophonist and educator, will serve as guest conductors.

The event will conclude with a public concert at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3, at Slippery Rock University’s Swope Music Hall. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
