Seniors Sign Letters of Intent

Four Mars Area seniors signed letters of intent to continue their sports careers at the college level:

Cory FergusonCory Ferguson will join the Raiders Men’s Soccer Team at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania (Shippensburg, Pa.), where he plans to major in biology.

Ferguson is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team, which took second place the 2015 and 2016 WPIAL Championships and advance to compete in the PIAA quarterfinals in both years. The team earned the section title in 2014, 2015 and 2016. In 2017, Ferguson was named to both the 2016 and 2017 All-WPIAL and All-Section boys soccer teams.

At Mars Area High School, Ferguson is a member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) and assists in organizing the annual “911 Never Forget” American Flag installation on the school's grounds.

William ScurciWilliam Scurci will join the Yellowjackets Men’s Lacrosse Team at Baldwin-Wallace University (Berea, Ohio), where he plans to major in business.

Scurci is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team, which earned WPIAL Championship Title in both 2016 and 2017 and advanced to the PIAA semifinals in 2017. The Fightin’ Planets competed in the 2015 WPIAL semifinals; tied for the 2015 section title; and earned the section title outright in 2016 and 2017.

At Mars Area High School, Scurci is also a four-year member and current team captain of the school’s Boys Varsity Hockey Team and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In the community, he volunteers for Habitat for Humanity through St. Kilian Church.

Elise TacikElise Tacik will join the Vulcans Women’s Soccer Team at California University of Pennsylvania (California, Pa.), where she has yet to declare a major.

Tacik is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which took home the 2015 WPIAL Title and earned second place in both the 2014 and 2017 WPIAL Championships. In all three years, the Lady Planets advanced to PIAA competition, earned the section title, and were undefeated in section play. In 2016, the team tied for the section title and competed in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

In 2017, Tacik was named to the All-Section Girls Soccer Team.

At Mars Area High School, Tacik is a member of National Honor Society, REACH (Responsible Educated Adolescents Can Help) and Yearbook. In the community, she volunteers with Butler County Humane Society, MHY Family Services and The Purple Cat.

Maggie WilliamsMaggie Williams will join the Wolverines Women’s Soccer Team at Grove City College (Grove City, Pa.), where she plans to major in mechanical engineering.

Williams is a four-year member of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team, which took home the 2015 WPIAL Title and earned second place in both the 2014 and 2017 WPIAL Championships. In all three years, the Lady Planets advanced to PIAA competition, earned the section title, and were undefeated in section play. In 2016, the team tied for the section title and competed in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

In 2017, Williams was named to the All-WPIAL and All-Section girls soccer teams.

At Mars Area High School, Williams is a member of National Honor Society, REACH and Class Council. In the community, she plays soccer for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds Academy.
