Teams Compete in 2018 MAC Championship

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2018 MAC Class 3A Varsity Swimming & Diving Championships, held Feb. 9-10 at Moon Area High School.

The girls team placed fourth overall with a score of 243.5 and the boys team took fifth place (202)

In individual competition on the girls team, sophomore Maddie Mueller earned second place with a score of 305.15 and sophomore Rachel Ronzcka took seventh place (248.50) in One-Meter Diving. Freshman Megan Smith earned second place (2:13.96); freshman Abigail Scott, 12th place (2:43.05); and junior Megan Hooper, 13th place (2:46.69), in the 200-Yard Individual Medley (IM).

Freshman Abigail Scott took third place (1:12.19); sophomore Caroline Stamper, fourth place (1:12.53); senior Ellie Hall, fifth place (1:16.24); and junior Megan Hooper, 16th place (1.21.90) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Freshman Megan Smith earned third place (1:01.60) in the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Junior Jenna Halenda took sixth place (5.41.66) and freshman Madeline Gagnon received 14th place (6:23.00) in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Junior Jenna Halenda took seventh place (2:07.08) and freshman Madeline Gagnon received 15th place (2:17.04) in the 200-Yard Freestyle.

Sophomore Caroline Stamper took eighth place (25.83); senior Ellie Hall tied for 15th place (26.99); and sophomore Grace Huff placed 27th (28.78) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Sophomore Grace Huff took 23rd place (1:05.88) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

The team of senior Ellie Hall, junior Jenna Halenda, sophomore Caroline Stamper and freshman Megan Smith took third place (1:56.72) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay and fifth place (1:44.65) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of junior Megan Hooper, sophomore Grace Huff, and freshmen Madeline Gagnon and Abigail Scott received seventh place (4:21.51) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.

On the boys team, junior Andrew Pierre earned first place (5:06.89); sophomore Zach Leachman, third place (5:24.26); and senior Austin Gilstrap, fourth place (5:27.78), in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Junior Andrew Pierre took third place (1:50.70); sophomore Zach Leachman, eighth place (1:58.40); and freshman Aidan Wolf, ninth place (2:01.99), in the 200-Yard Freestyle.

Senior Andrew Ivory took fifth place (2:08.55) and senior Austin Gilstrap, 10th place (2:15.57), in the 200-Yard IM. Senior Andrew Ivory received sixth place (1:04.68) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke; and, freshman Aidan Wolf took eighth place (1:03.26) in the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Sophomore Hayden Silsby placed 18th (1:07.88) in the 100-Yard Butterfly; and, sophomore Will Allison received 22nd place (58.02) in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Sophomore Will Allison took 27th place (26.12); senior Jack Ford, 35th place (26.96); and sophomore Hayden Silsby, 38th place (27.45), in the 50-Yard Freestyle.

The team of seniors Austin Gilstrap and Andrew Ivory, junior Andrew Pierre and sophomore Zach Leachman received sixth place (1:50.53) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay and sixth place (3:35.23) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of senior Jack Ford, sophomores Will Allison and Hayden Silsby, and freshman Aidan Wolf received ninth place (1:47.05) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.
