Student Selected for Volunteer Service Award

Mars Area senior Rachel Bobko was selected to receive a President’s Volunteer Service Award.

The award, offered through the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards Program, recognizes those who have volunteered their time in service to their community and country.

Bobko serves as the vice president and as Pennsylvania regional director of the youth-led non-profit, StoryBox Books (https://storyboxbooks.org/). To date the organization has provided more than 300 books to children in need through Lincoln Park Family Support Center (Penn Hills, Pa.)

In addition, Bobko has also volunteered for MHY Family Services, for which completed an encouragement project for students at the facility. At Mars Area High School, she serves as treasurer of the school’s FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) chapter; is a member of National Honor Society, Orchestra, and the Water Protection Program, as well as the Girls Varsity Basketball and Track & Field teams.

Upon graduating, Bobko plans to attend college as a bio-chemistry major on a pre-medicine track. For more information, visit https://spirit.prudential.com/.
