Mars Area senior Robby Carmody was named 2017-2018 Butler Eagle Boys Basketball Co-Player of the Year.
The title is the third consecutive for Carmody, a four-year member of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team. He was selected for the title outright in 2016-2017 and shared the 2015-2016 honor with John Castello (Class of 2016 graduate).
This past season, Carmody helped lead the Fightin’ Planets to earn the Section 2-5A title as well as the WPIAL Class 5A Boys Varsity Basketball Championship Title, a first for the school. The team also took second place in the PIAA Class 5A Boys Varsity Basketball Championship.
Carmody is the seventh-leading scorer in WPIAL history with 2,390 points. He also amassed a career 1,126 rebounds, 592 successful free throws, 423 assists, 345 steals, 186 three-pointers, 103 blocks, and 91 wins.
In addition, he was named 2017-2018 Gatorade Pennsylvania Boys Basketball Player of the Year; is a two-time First Team All-State honoree; was named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Fab Five; and was selected for the USA Today All-USA Pennsylvania Second Team.
Carmody has signed a letter of intent to continue his sports career with the Fighting Irish Men’s Basketball Team at the University of Notre Dame (Notre Dame, Ind.), where he intends to major in business and finance.
