Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team advanced to the semifinals of the 2018 PIAA Class 2A Boys Lacrosse Championships on June 5, but were defeated 12-11 in overtime by the Strath Haven Black Panthers.
The Fightin’ Planets crushed the Palmyra Area Cougars 13-6 in the PIAA quarterfinals on June 2; routed the Cathedral Prep Ramblers 20-8 in the first round of PIAA play on May 29. The team earned its third consecutive WPIAL title after taming the Hampton Talbots 17-4 in the final game of the 2018 WPIAL Class 2A Boys Varsity Lacrosse Championship on May 25.
The team conquered the Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic Trojans 20-5 in the WPIAL semifinals on May 23; and swatted the Freeport Yellowjackets 18-5 in the WPIAL quarterfinals on May 17. The Planets ended the 2018 regular season with an overall record of 14-1and 4-0 in section play, earning the 2018 Section 1-2A title.
Outstanding players on this year’s team included seniors Kyle Anderson, Kam Angeletti, Jackson Condrick, Owen Corsi, Robert Crawford, Nick Dinderman, Hunter Fetsko, Anthony Grieco, Cade Hetzler, Christian Jacobs, Luke Kasten, Luke Miller, Andrew Moyer (captain), Brendan Moyer (captain), Daniel O’Connell (captain), Will Scurci (captain), Kevin Soergel, Hayden Vasbinder and Austin Vogel; and juniors Michael Doyle, Zane Mundy, Garrett Reinke, Christopher Sicher and Nathan Smith. Rounding out the team were juniors Gavin Honeycutt, Lucas Musser, Ethan Thompson and Noah Toparli; sophomores Mason Koma, Konrad Lesheim, Niccolas Spotti and Jeremey Stahl; and freshmen Ben Chizmar, Nicholas Crowley, Jacob Gareis, Noah Grau, Connor Kasten, Jared Kolarcik-Schmitt, Caleb Raydo, Jeffrey Shay, Grant Thompson, Luke Whittaker and Jacob Woolridge.
