Mars Area High School kicked off its 2018 Homecoming Spirit Week with the school’s annual Powder Puff Football Games, held Sept. 30 at Mars Athletic Complex.
Early in the first game, Seniors vs. Freshmen, the Senior Team recovered a fumble by the Freshman in the endzone, earning a quick six points. The Seniors then completed a two-point conversion, bringing the score to 8-0. Senior Gianna Buzzelli ran the ball in for a second touchdown and Paige Seles earned the two-point conversion, taking the Senior Team to a 16-0 lead at the half. Despite a strong effort by the Freshman Team, the Seniors held on to their lead in the second half and won the game 16-0.
In the second game, Juniors vs. Sophomores, the teams appear-ed evenly matched. Olivia Lockette scored the Juniors’ first touchdown and Madelyn Mueller earned the extra point with a successful field goal attempt. Junior Mara Fuller garnered another six points for the Junior Team and Caroline Barent earned the extra point, ending the first half with a score of 14-0. The Sophomore Team could not overcome the Junior Team’s momentum moving into the second half and the score remained at 14-0 as the final buzzer sounded.
In the final game, Seniors vs. Juniors, Paige Seles put the Senior Team on the board with six points and ran in a two-point conversion to raise the score to 8-0. The rest of the game remained scoreless and the Seniors triumphed over the Junior Team with a final score of 8-0.
