Several members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team are listed among the best players in the region.

Senior D.J. Carter and Shane Lisman were named to the 2018 All-WPIAL Boys Soccer Team. Seniors D.J. Carter, Caden Ferguson and Shane Lisman as well as sophomore Dane Beller were named to the 2018 All-Section Boys Soccer Team.

WPIAL Playoffs

Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Soccer Team took fourth place in the 2018 WPIAL Class 3A Boys Soccer Championship.

The Fightin’ Planets advanced to the WPIAL Third Place Consolation Match on Nov. 1, but were defeated 3-2 by the Thomas Jefferson Jaguars. The team was defeated 4-3 by the West Allegheny Indians after a penalty shoot-out in the WPIAL semifinals on Oct. 29.

The team tamed the South Fayette Lions 4-3 in the WPIAL quarterfinals on Oct. 25; and subdued the Chartiers Valley Colts 4-1 in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs on Oct. 22. The Planets ended the 2018 regular season with an overall record of 16-1-1 and remaining undefeated (14-0) in section play, earning the Section 1-3A title.

Outstanding players on this year’s team included seniors D.J. Carter, Caden Ferguson, Ryan Kaniuff, Shane Lisman, Zane Mundy, Nathan Paras, Matthew Olsen and Garrett Riddle; junior Austin Rocke; and sophomores Dane Bellar and Jake Garies.

Other players on this year’s team included juniors Easton Carter, Zachary Carter, Seth Grady, Luke Harvey, Jacob Jedry, Steven Papik, Aiden Sanders and Aedan Skirtich; sophomores Connor Gagnon, Trent Irwin, Nabil Lahlou, Brady Nihoff, Tyler Nymberg, Ryan Pasko, Nicholas Porter and Trent Wick; and freshman Brayden Boatwright, Zaccheri Campagna, Matthew Hannan, Declan Mayer, Mason Meyer, Devin Schupp, Gabriel Singh, Mitchell Valentine and Eli Wright.
