Several members of Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Teams were named to the 2018 Butler Eagle Girls Soccer Honor Roll.

Junior Taylor Hamlett, who had 28 goals and 22 assists this season, and sophomore Caroline Wroblewski (17 goals, 15 assists) were named to the Forwards Honor Roll. Sophomore Ellie Coffield (24 goals, 25 assists) was selected for the Midfielders Honor Roll.

Sophomore Gracie Dunaway (15 goals, 10 assists) and senior Kaitlyn Pietrusinski (2 goals) were selected for the Defenders Honor Roll. Senior Claire Valentine (16 shutouts) was named to the Goalkeepers Honor Roll.

Soccer Players Named to All-WPIAL, All-Section Teams

PIAA/WPIAL Championships

Mars Area High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2018 PIAA Class 3A Girls Soccer Championship on Nov. 10, but were defeated 1-0 by the Blue Mountain Eagles.

The Lady Planets beat the Manheim Central Barons 2-0 in the first round of PIAA play on Nov. 6. Despite a 1-0 overtime loss to the Oakland Catholic Eagles in the final game of the 2018 WPIAL Class 3A Girls Soccer Championship on Nov. 2, the Lady Planets took second place and qualified for the state playoffs.

The team halted the Hampton Talbots 1-0 in the WPIAL semifinals on Oct. 27; conquered the Montour Spartans 3-0 in the WPIAL quarterfinals on Oct. 24; and tamed the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions 9-0 in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs on Oct. 20. The team ended the 2018 regular season with an overall record of 15-0 and went undefeated (14-0) in section play, earning the Section 1-3A title.

Outstanding players on this year’s team included seniors Stephanie Cimini, Katrina Johannson, Kaitlyn Pietrusinski, Rebekka Ranalli and Claire Valentine; junior Taylor Hamlett; sophomores Ellie Coffield, Gracie Dunaway, Eleanor Howell, Samantha King, Erin Rodgers and Caroline Wroblewski; and freshmen Isabella Cinalli and Jenna Jedry.

Rounding out the team were juniors Kaitlyn Duker, Ashley Edwards, Grace Ingram, Kiara Khemani, Anna Kurpakus, Madelyn Smelko and Olivia Williams; sophomores Courtney Lisman and Kara Rocco; and freshmen Kristin Bayuk, Megan Boddy, Sydney Carr, Alyson Cooper, Leana Cuzzocrea, Jordan Esswein and Londynn Gonzales.
