Mars Area High School Varsity Hockey Team advanced to the first round of the 2019 Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) Class 2A Penguins Cup Playoffs on March 4, but was defeated 2-1 by the Franklin Regional Panthers.
The Fightin’ Planets ended the 2018-2019 regular season with an overall record of 15-4 and 9-3 in the Class 2A Northwest Division.
Members of this year’s team included seniors William Foley, Braden Hanna, James Kay, Nicholas Kiefer, Zachary Koerbel, Jackson Krock, Patrick McCann, Ryan Norris, Hunter Riemer and Lindsey Scott; juniors Hudson Finn, Daniel Mitchell, Sean Newman, Austin Radomski; sophomores Colin Boyle, Nathan Isaac, Jared Kolarcik-Schmitt, Mackenzie Riemer and Shaun Wasylson; and freshman Luke Raymundo.

Players, Coach Selected for All-Star Teams
Three members of Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Hockey Team were selected to compete in the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League (PIHL) Class 2A All-Star Game at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27, at Robert Morris University Island Sports Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Players are seniors William Foley and Jackson Krock (captain), and junior Daniel Mitchell. This season, Krock (forward) leads the Fightin’ Planets with 15 goals and 9 assists; Foley (defenseman) has seven goals and 12 assists; and Mitchell (goaltender) has allowed in only 20 goals out of 265 attempts.
Also of note, Steve Meyer, head coach of the Fightin’ Planets, was selected as an assistant coach for the PIHL Class 2A All-Star Northwest Conference Team. All coaches were selected based upon their individual team’s winning percentage.
