SWIMMIING/DIVING NEWS (updated 03.18.19)

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2018-2019 PIAA Swimming & Diving Championships, held March 13-16 at the Bucknell University’s Kinney Natatorium (Lewisburg, Pa.).

Senior Andrew Pierre earned fourth place with a time of 1:42.58 in the 200-Yard Freestyle and fourth place (4:43.01) in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Sophomore Aidan Wolf received 30th place (1:52.43) and 31st place (5:11.97) in the preliminary rounds of the 200-Yard Freestyle and 500-Yard Freestyle, respectively.

The team of senior Andrew Pierre, juniors William Allison and Zach Leachman, and sophomore Aidan Wolf received 23rd place (3:24.84) in the preliminary round of the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay. Sophomore Megan Smith took 24th place (2:11.92) in the preliminary round of the 200-Yard IM.

WPIAL Swimming & Diving Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2018-2019 WPIAL Swimming & Diving Championships, held March 1-2 at the University of Pittsburgh Trees Pool.

The boys team took ninth place overall in 2A competition with a score of 106. The girls team placed 22nd overall in 3A competition with 20 points.

In individual competition on the boys team, senior Andrew Pierre earned first place (1:42.19); sophomore Aidan Wolf, seventh place (1:50.21); and junior Zach Leachman, 10th place (1:52.71) in the 200-Yard Freestyle. Senior Andrew Pierre took second place (4:40.05); sophomore Aidan Wolf, 10th place (5:02.02); and junior Zach Leachman, 14th place (5:09.93) in the 500-Yard Freestyle.

Junior Hayden Silsby received 28th place (1:00.60) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. The team of senior Andrew Pierre, juniors William Allison and Zach Leachman, and sophomore Aidan Wolf took sixth place (3:24.48) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay and 10th place (1:34.04) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay.

On the girls team, sophomore Megan Smith earned sixth place (2:08.31) in the 200-Yard IM; junior Maddie Mueller took 13th place with 337.30 points in One-Meter Diving; and junior Caroline Stamper received 33rd place (25.83) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. Sophomore Megan Smith took 14th place (1:07.47) and sophomore Abigail Scott received 30th place (1:11.87) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke.

The team of junior Caroline Stamper, sophomore Megan Smith, and freshmen Sarah Hooper and Isabella Pelligrino took 17th place (1:43.21) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of junior Caroline Stamper, sophomores Abigail Scott and Megan Smith, and freshman Isabella Pellegrino received 18th place (1:54.23) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

MAC Class 3A Varsity Swimming & Diving Championships

Several members of Mars Area High School Boys & Girls Varsity Swimming & Diving Team competed in the 2019 MAC Class 3A Varsity Swimming & Diving Championships, held Feb. 8-9 at Moon Area High School.

The girls team placed third overall with a score of 250 and the boys team took sixth place (159)

In individual competition on the girls team, junior Maddie Mueller took fourth place with 309.75 points; freshman Kristen Maybach, fifth place (268.75); freshman Kellen Fletcher, sixth place (267.40); and junior Rachel Ronczka, 10th place (246.80), in One-Meter Diving. Sophomore Madeline Gagnon received 14th place (2:16.75) in the 200-Yard Freestyle.

Junior Caroline Stamper earned third place (1:12.20); sophomore Abigail Scott, fourth place (1:12.63); freshman Sarah Hooper, fifth place (1:16.35); and senior Megan Hooper, 16th place (1:24.09) in the 100-Yard Breaststroke. Sophomore Megan Smith earned third place (1:02.60) and freshman Isabella Pellegrino took 13th place (1:10.30) in the 100-Yard Backstroke.

Sophomore Megan Smith earned fifth place (2:16.94); sophomore Abigail Scott, 15th place (2:35.46); senior Megan Hooper, 20th place (2:48.91); and freshman Sophie Huff, 22nd place (2:52.40) in the 200-Yard IM. Junior Grace Huff took 16th place (1:16.06) and freshman Sophie Huff received 18th place (1:18.77) in the 100-Yard Butterfly.

Junior Grace Huff received 22nd place (1:05.64) in the 100-Yard Freestyle. Junior Caroline Stamper took sixth place (25.56); freshman Sarah Hooper, 14th place (27.04); freshman Isabella Pelligrino, 26th place (28.90); and freshman Danielle Sticinski, 30th place (29.69) in the 50-Yard Freestyle.

Sophomore Madeline Gagnon took 10th place (6:04.14) in the 500-Yard Freestyle. The team of junior Caroline Stamper, sophomores Abigail Scott and Megan Smith, and freshman Isabella Pellegrino earned second place (1:56.63) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.

The team of senior Jenna Halenda, junior Caroline Stamper, sophomore Megan Smith, and freshman Sarah Hooper took third place (1:44.01) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of junior Grace Huff, sophomore Madeline Gagnon, and freshmen Sophie Huff and Sarah Hooper took sixth place (4:12.89) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.

On the boys team, senior Andrew Pierre earned first place (4:58.37) and junior Zach Leachman took third place (5:21.07) in the 500-Yard Freestyle. Senior Andrew Pierre took third place (1:49.26) and junior Zach Leachman received third place (1:58.81) in the 200-Yard Freestyle.

Sophomore Aidan Wolf received 10th place (2:12.89) in the 200-Yard IM; and junior Hayden Silsby received 13th place (1:03.07) in the 100-Yard Butterfly. Sophomore Aidan Wolf took 10th place (1:03.23) in the 100-Yard Backstroke; and freshman Jacob Harsch received 19th place (1:00.21) in the 100-Yard Freestyle.

Freshman Jacob Harsch and junior Hayden Silsby took 21st place (26.15) and 24th place (26.86) in the 50-Yard Freestyle. The team of senior Andrew Pierre, junior Zach Leachman, sophomore Aidan Wolf, and freshman Jacob Harsch took fifth place (3:35.90) in the 400-Yard Freestyle Relay.

The team of senior Andrew Pierre, juniors Zach Leachman and Hayden Silsby, and freshman Raghav Kalbhor received seventh place (1:43.19) in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay. The team of junior Hayden Silsby, sophomore Aidan Wolf, and freshmen Jacob Harsch and Raghav Kalbhor took eighth place (2:01.06) in the 200-Yard Medley Relay.
