Mars Area School District was awarded 2018-2019 Trib HSSN (High School Sports Network) Class 5A Sports Cup.
The Trib HSSN Cup, a yearlong competition to determine the top WPIAL sports program in each classification, awards points for section/conference wins, district/state playoff wins and district/state championships and runners-up. Schools can earn one point for section/conference wins as well as for placing in WPIAL and/or PIAA competitions.
The District’s sports teams earned a total of 345 points throughout the 2018-2019 School Year. Of note, the Mars Area High School Boys Varsity Basketball Team moved on to the PIAA semifinals after taking first place in the WPIAL playoffs; the Girls Varsity Soccer team advanced to the PIAA quarterfinals after taking second place in the WPIAL championships; and, the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team competed in the PIAA quarterfinals after winning its fourth consecutive WPIAL title.
Mars Area High School’s varsity baseball, girls basketball, football, girls lacrosse, boys soccer, softball, girls tennis and girls volleyball teams each advanced to compete in their respective WPIAL playoffs. And, members of the school’s cross country, girls varsity golf, swimming & diving, girls tennis, track & field and wrestling teams competed in individual WPIAL and PIAA contests.
