National Honor Society

NEW PROCEDURES IN PLACE FOR 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR

National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization established to recognize outstanding high school students, who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of leadership, scholarship, service, and character.

Sophomore and junior students who have AT LEAST a 3.9000 cumulative WGPA after grades have been posted at the semester break will meet the scholarship requirement.  Those students, along with their parents, will receive an e-mail inviting them to apply for acceptance into the National Honor Society.  Those e-mails will be sent out by the District by no later than Jan. 31. Students, who do not meet the scholarship requirement, will not be considered for acceptance under any circumstances.

Criteria

Students who have been invited to apply must meet ALL of the following criteria in order to be eligible for acceptance…

  • Community Service Hours – 24 hours for sophomores, 36 hours for juniors. (Note: Community services hours MUST come from at least two (2) different organizations and have occurred no sooner than June 1st following their 8th grade school year.)

  • Activity/Club Membership – At least four (4) school/community clubs for a minimum of two (2) years each. A leadership position on your application will reduce the necessary activities from four (4) to three (3).  (Note: Activities/clubs cannot be of the same type – sports, music, church, etc.)

Meeting the above criteria does not guarantee acceptance into NHS.  However, not meeting this criterion does guarantee that one will not be accepted in the organization.

Once a student is invited to apply, he/she can see Mr. David Kuremsky in Room 221 to obtain detailed directions for completing an NHS application. The directions for the application are very detailed.  Any directions that are not followed will result in denied acceptance.  Once an application has been submitted, no changes can be made to the application. All applications will be due by no later than 2:30 p.m. on the last SCHOOL day in February.

Acceptance

Students will receive a letter, in school, letting them know if they have been accepted into the National Honor Society.  Those students not being accepted, will also receive a letter with a general statement, addressing where their application fell short of minimum requirements.  Students will receive this notification no later than March 31.

National Honor Society be inducting these new members in a formal ceremony in the high school auditorium in late April or early May.
