ASVAB Test

Each fall, Mars Area High School students (Grades 10-12) have an opportunity to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Test.
What is the ASVAB?

ASVAB is a career planning and exploration program that combines a multiple-aptitude test with an interest self-assessment and a wide range of career exploration tools.
What Areas are Tested?

The ASVAB tests the areas of General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Math Knowledge, Electronics Information, Auto & Shop Information and Mechanical Comprehension.
What Will the Results Show?

Students who take the ASVAB test will receive a Results Summary Sheet, which will list scores in each of the eight tested areas as well as Career Exploration Scores highlighting Verbal, Mathematics and Science & Technical Skills.
After Taking the ASVAB, What’s Next?

An education specialist will meet with each student who took the ASVAB to review his/her Results Summary Sheet. The specialist will also help each student to understand more about him/herself by completing the FYI Interest Inventory.
What is the FYI Interest Inventory?

The FYI Interest Inventory asks students questions about the activities they like or might like to do. The inventory will help students to determine their strongest interest areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising  and Conventional. Each student can then explore the careers that are most aligned with their interest area(s).
Students’ career and educational plans may change over time as they gain more experience and learn more about their interests. Taking the ASVAB test can help students to learn more about themselves and the world of work, to identify and explore potential goals, and develop an effective strategy to realize their goals.

ASVAB results can also help students to make well-informed choices about future high school courses. For more information, contact the Mars Area High School Counseling Center at (724) 625-1581.
